On Homosexuality and Phil Robertson

It has been the main issue lately about Phil Robertson's Interview with GQ Magazine about homosexuality and pointing out that it is a sin.  No buts, no excuses.  Simple black and white and God's truth.

I was not planning to write about it seeing that it has been the topic of the day and a lot of bloggers decided to retaliate against A&E TV, doing a boycott and comparing to what the Pope said to how Phil Robertson said it, how it had offended GLAAD and how A & E is supporting the gay-lesbian community.

Now it seems to be a lot and it has exploded in an argument why Phil Robertson should not be suspended.  I know the issues about how we cannot say anything discriminating against homosexuals, getting in trouble about that with a lot of people especially with GLAAD backing them up.  It seems that we cannot voice our opinion to call sin what really is a sin.

I don't watch Duck Dynasty because mainly I rarely get to watch TV.  I do get to listen to Phil Robertson once in a while when listening to the radio.  I am glad that he is an advocate of leading a Christian life, Bible-thumpers as he calls himself.  His show may have touched a lot of lives and who know, even brought a lot of people to Christ.  It is a family oriented show which I believe a lot of the tv shows lately have been lacking in.

Homosexuality is a SIN.  Same goes with lying, cheating, murdering, stealing, coveting, committing adultery, using God's name in vain, worshiping idol.  Sin is a sin and always will be a sin.  Recognizing sin does not make us good people. We are all sinful one way or another.  But defending such sin doesn't give us an excuse to be accepting.  We have become a tolerant society and the fine line between  evil and good is getting erased by the minute.  We accept lying even if it's a white lie as something called a small sin or saying it's okay.  I just think about Sodom and Gomorra and sometimes felt we were Lot's wife who turned to look back at the city being destroyed.  She probably had accepted the society at that time as it is but was fleeing with Lot.  Being wistful, turned around and then turned into a pillar of salt.

I am not saying that I hate the homosexuals.  I do have a lot of homosexual friends but they do know I do not agree with their choice.  Sometimes their stories shock me.  I just nod or smile.  But shutting them out is not what I would want to do.  They are our brothers and sisters who have lost their way.  I know what it feels like.  I've lost my way too.  I am the worst of sinners.  And the greatest thing was I was still saved despite what I have done in my life.  And I want the same for them too.  To find a way back to God's love.  Not to be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorra.

As for Phil Robertson or the Duck Dynasty show getting cancelled (I don't know if it is), when one door closes, God opens up the window.  Despite the show's success, Phil Robertson knew it will end someday.  He knew it will run it's course, and he would rather do what he is called to do, that is the work of the Lord.  It is a blessing that God opened up mainstream media to watch this family to tell the world what it's like to have faith and being a whole loving family despite it's rocky history.  God has used them for this purpose and perhaps have another purpose for the Robertson family.  I cannot wait what this family will do after the show, how they will dedicate their lives in serving God and being an example to all others.  Boycotting the network will perhaps work, but question is, are we interfering with God's plan?  Phil knew what he needs to do next.  We are taking the matters to our own hands but we must learn to let it go and let God do what He had planned.  What I believe the family needs right now is prayer.  Pray for guidance, pray for the Lord's strength.  Whatever they do now, whatever they do next, it will all be for God's glory.
